Senior infrastructure work, priced as a fraction of a hire

Six ways I help, all backed by production experience. The first three are where most engagements start.

Fractional Platform / DevOps Leadership

Own the platform for a team that is not ready for a full-time head of infrastructure.

Standards and a paved road for CI/CD and infrastructure as code, on-call and runbooks, production readiness reviews and post-mortems, coaching for the engineers who touch it, and help hiring for infra roles.

Platform Engineering and IaC

Design and build platforms that are secure and cost-optimized by design, managed entirely as code.

OpenTofu or Terraform, AWS Organizations and multi-account setups, ECS and Fargate, GitHub Actions with pinned actions and SBOMs. Azure and on-prem when that is where you are.

Security, Hardening and SecOps

Harden the estate and stand up the security practice a growing company needs.

Linux and container hardening to CIS baselines, supply-chain security, GuardDuty and incident response, and the answers for the next security questionnaire or audit.

Cloud Cost Optimization

Get a cloud bill under control and keep it there.

Budgets and anomaly alerts, Savings Plans, unit-cost reporting, and architecture reviews that keep cost in the design.

SRE and Reliability

Make a platform observable, measurable, and survivable when something breaks.

SLOs as code, reviewed daily, cross-region disaster recovery with runbooks, and alerts and escalations that reach the right person.

AI-Augmented Operations

Bring agentic AI workflows into a platform team's daily work, safely. I have run them daily since 2025.

Claude Code workflows that write infrastructure code, pipelines, and runbooks, with review, scanning, and sign-off around every change.

A good fit, and not

Good fit

  • A cloud or mixed estate, often AWS, sometimes Azure or on-prem, that has outgrown its ad-hoc setup, with nobody senior owning it.
  • Engineers who touch infrastructure and would do better with standards, a paved road, and someone to ask.
  • A piece of work with a clear scope: a cost review, a hardening pass, a move to infrastructure as code, a DR plan.

Not a good fit

  • Building your product's features. That is development work, not what I do.
  • A 24/7 managed operations desk. I set up on-call and runbooks so your team can run them; I do not staff a NOC.
  • Another pair of hands on the ticket queue. I own problems, not tickets. If a backlog is what you need, ask anyway; I can probably point you to someone.
